Heroic journalists in the Middle East honored.

About time!

Three prominent freedom loving, anti-Syrian journalists were targeted in Lebanon in 2005, leaving two brutally killed and one seriously injured. Renowned journalist Samir Kassir (pictured right) was the first targeted and killed on June 2, 2005. Kassir had just criticized the president of Syria Bashar al-Assad days before he was killed in the newspaper he worked for, An-Nahar.

On the occasion of the International Day for Press Freedom, a ceremony was held Wednesday in honor of An-Nahar's slain General Manager Gebran Tueni and other murdered journalists.
The event entitled the "Martyrs of the Lebanese Press (1906-2006), 100 Years of Red Ink" was organized by Maharat Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO.

Its essential from time to time for us to realize the just how big of a blessing it is to live in a free and democratic society. And stories like this always reminds me just how grateful I should be to my parents who brought me here 17 years ago.
