Iran is suddenly an innocent flower.

You've all must have heard by now that the original storey in the National Post about Iran instituting a policy that requires Jews and Christians to wear labels is now sketchy at best. Obviously this raises many questions about the journalistic methods of the National Post itself, but what I find the most odd about all this was the reaction from our resident appeasers and Mid-east totalitarian apologists.

From their reaction you would swear that Iran was the undeserved victim of a vicious smear employed by the vast right wing conspiracy in trying to convince the world that Iran should be nuked back to the stone ages.

Take for instance this guy who's literally frothing in the mouth that Iran would be victim of such a hoax. What's even funnier was the link he provides to credit his/her sources, check out the reactions:

From a guy calling himself "Cueball"

The damage is done, unfortunately.

Iran's leadership apparently was undeserving of any scrutiny and scorn from the world. Ahmadinejad's holocaust denial and threatening to wipe Israel off the map and his mad ravings about Islamic supremacy in this world; victimless crimes apparently , which should not be taken very seriously, even if the guy is pursuing Nuclear weapons. No, according to Cueball, this alone tarnished Iran's repution in the world. And apparently is a crime that should be punishable by jail:

The National Post should be taken to court. A don't think a retraction will be good enough. There has got to be some standards for checking sources and facts. Printing a great big hoax, calling it news, and then putting an itty bitty retraction on page 20 just doesn't cut it.

Perhaps the journalist should be jailed instead.

And of course, as always with the appeasing left, Israel must be thrown in the blame game for good measure and moral equivilancy:

As if Iran is the only nation that prohibits religious minorities from top posts? How many Arab Muslims hold senior positions in the IDF or Israeli Cabinet?

Quite a few actually, but that's not really the subject here. To me, this whole issue is like falsely accusing a convicted rapist of murder. Its wrong, but its not a mistake worthy of self-flagellation.

Note the difference in reactions by the liberal-left between this episode and others when Iran wasn't exactly the innocent virgin. As always whenever a leader in that part of the world states outrageous opinions publicly, jails dissidents, orders his police force to jail judges and beat reformists badly, and commits human rights abuses unseen since world war 2, the "progressives" among us simply shrug, downplay or ignore such actions. Worrying that raising those issues would reward their domestic political opponents' ("Neoconservatives"-whatever the fuck that means) theory on these maniacs.

Why is that? Why is it that you have to beat a condemnation out of a leftie for the actions middle eastern tyrants, but a mistake or miscalculation by a western leader against them is an unforgivable sin?

One could argue that this behavior is a confirmation that third-world suffering and human-rights causes are nothing but cheap rhetoric in their activism. People who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. All for the purpose of hoping to attract some ethnic voters their way every once in a while. Can this be labeled as racist? I think it can. Although I'm sure that this theory would horrify them beyond belief.

All I know, is that Iran doesn't deserve such a spirited defense from our resident lefties. Especially considering Iran is the purpatrator of many crimes and policies that goes against many issues the left claims to hold dear to their hearts.

This guy doesn't seem to have a problem with implying that Israel bars Muslims from holding senior positions in the IDF or the cabinet.

Odd, that.

(What does Israel have to do with this issue, anyway?)

Leftists simply don't care about people, human lives are just a means to an end - power.

Jack Layton for example isn't too stupid to understand that the Taliban would make a comeback in Afghanistan if Western troops were to cut and run. The Taliban would would of course exact their vengeance upon the Afghan people just like they used to do, many would be slaughtered and terrorist training camps would be re-established so they could send jihadis to blow up subways and night clubs, perhaps in Toronto. But Jack doesn't care - he wants to make noise, put on a show.

The Left's cavalier attitude towards human life - who gets to live and who gets to die - is far more scary than any other political movement, it exemplifies craven self-interest.

Yes the Post got it wrong, the but the silence of the left on the original news
was deafening, it seems only Harper and the right care about the rights of minorities.
