The Palestinian Civil war drags on

And Hamas continues to prove that Western governments were right all along when they cut off their "aid package" to the Palestinian authority.

First, you have a Hamas taking a page out of the Liberal party playbook of governing and get caught red-handed:

Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian leader, has ordered an investigation after a Hamas official was stopped at the Gaza-Egypt border with $800,000 in cash.
Sami Abu Zuhri had tried to cross into the Gaza Strip with the money but was detained and the cash confiscated, Julio de la Guardia, a spokesman for the European Union observation force at Rafah terminal, said on Friday.

And they try to kill a respected Palestinian intelligence officer who's known to be a moderate.

Hamas accused over Gaza blast

Saturday 20 May 2006, 17:52 Makka Time, 14:52 GMT

The chief of Palestinian intelligence services has been taken to a hospital in Israel after being seriously injured in a blast at his Gaza headquarters.

Tareq Abu Rajab, the overall head of the Palestinian Authority intelligence services, was with several of his bodyguards in a lift when an explosion ripped through the building in Gaza City on Saturday.

I'm hoping to god that this will (finally!) wake the Palestinian people that a Hamas government will only make their lives even more miserable than it already is, but I'm not holding my breath. Not when it’s a population that still celebrates suicide bombing knowing full well that there would be a military backlash against them.

Good call on the Liberal playbook. Anonymous, I can understand why you remain anonymous with such intelligent comments.
